You are invited to join REL Midwest for a webinar on October 9th to learn how researchers and practitioners can form networked improvement communities (NICs) to study high-priority questions about education practice.

Many educational researchers use improvement research to study and address educational problems of practice. A NIC, consisting of both researchers and education practitioners, is a continuous improvement research structure. NIC members work together to identify research questions; develop an intervention to address the research questions; test the intervention in authentic school, district, or state contexts; analyze the results; and adjust the intervention for future testing.

Presenters on the webinar will provide an overview of continuous improvement research, including the NIC structure and Plan-Do-Study-Act rapid research cycles. School-based practitioners will discuss their experiences participating in the Iowa Learning and Technology NIC, which is focused on effectively using technology in rural classrooms.

This webinar is designed for state-level education administrators, regional education service agency staff, district superintendents, district-level research staff, principals, instructional coaches, and teachers. If you cannot attend the live event, please register anyway to be notified when a recording of the webinar is available online.

The Regional Educational Laboratories (RELs) build the capacity of educators to use data and research to improve student outcomes. Each REL responds to needs identified in its region and makes learning opportunities and other resources available to educators throughout the United States. The REL program is a part of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) in the U.S. Department of Education. To receive regular updates on REL work, including events and reports, follow IES on Facebook and Twitter. To provide feedback on this or other REL work, email [email protected].
