The COVID-19 pandemic poses major challenges to summer enrichment programs for adolescents. These programs are more than just “something to do” while school is out. They provide opportunities to explore, connect, and contribute that are essential to healthy adolescent development, particularly after months out of a classroom, particularly for young people facing economic, social, and structural biases and discrimination.

This panel is for practitioners working to create quality summer programs in the face of the pandemic, and for parents wondering what to look for in summer programs for adolescents. We’ll discuss how summer programs can support positive development whether they’re in person, completely remote, or some combination of the two.

Andrew Fuligni, PhD, Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, UCLA
