The concept of learning styles is an anomaly in the sense that it enjoys widespread acceptance and endorsement in educational settings, while at the same time being widely criticized in academic circles. This monograph examines the history of learning styles, the widespread acceptance, the cases for and against, a systematic review of empirical evidence, consequences of promotion, and conclusions.

Chapter contributors may be educational researchers and practitioners with diverse backgrounds that fit these themes and may propose related themes. Of special interest are authors who are able to make a compelling case for the use of learning styles. In addition, select authors will provide a brief (~10 pages) commentary on the collection of chapters.
