My name is Neil Jacobson, a PhD student working with Gale Sinatra and Erika Patall at the University of Southern California and Olusola Adesope and Robert Danielson at Washington State University. We are conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of refutation/conceptual change text effects on beliefs (e.g. knowledge or misconceptions) and motivational outcomes (e.g. attitudes or emotions). Refutation texts are a text based intervention technique designed to activate a misconception, refute it, and provide an alternative explanation. In this study, we use the term belief to operationalize both learner knowledge and beliefs. Beliefs can be misconceptions if they are not “scientifically justified” and can be knowledge if they are “scientifically justified”. Our systematic investigation has yielded approximately 7000 studies with approximately 175 reaching inclusion criteria.

We are contacting you asking you to send us any work addressing this question whether published, unpublished, conference, thesis or dissertation work that may not be collected through other search techniques.

Please reply if you believe any of your work should be included in our project. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Kindest regards,

Neil Jacobson
