The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues has established an annual grant program to provide SPSSI members with funds to develop, enhance, or measure the impact of an innovative action teaching classroom activity, student assignment, field experience, or web-based resource.
Eligibility
The grant program is open to regular dues-paying members of SPSSI, including graduate students. If you are not currently a member of SPSSI, a membership application can be submitted along with the grant application.
Evaluation Criteria
Proposed projects will be judged on originality, feasibility, potential teaching effectiveness, and potential impact with respect to one or more social issues. Applicants are strongly encouraged to include details on how they plan to assess the educational effectiveness and social impact of their proposed classroom activity, student assignment, field experience, or web-based resource. Please visit ActionTeaching.org to see award-winning examples of action teaching.
Size and Number of Grants
Applicants are welcome to request any amount of funding between $100 and $1,500. SPSSI expects to award a maximum of three action teaching grants per year.
The application should include:
- The SPSSI Action Teaching Grant Application Form
- Your CV or résumé
- An abstract of 75-150 words summarizing the grant proposal
