About the Event
Many of the current controversies in education – such as whether critical race theory should be taught in schools – reflect broader ideologies that either support or undermine the experiences and achievement of marginalized youth. In this interactive webinar, Dr. Francesca Lopez will discuss the essential knowledge that educators must have if they are to transform their classrooms into spaces that promote equity and respect for student differences. This includes an examination of the research on how teachers develop expectations that influence students’ academic identity and performance. Dr. Lopez will conclude by sharing insights from emerging research on the benefits of an asset-based approach to teaching and policymaking. This webinar will be hosted via the Zoom platform and is the first to use Mentimeter – presentation software that allows participants to engage in the discussion in real time.
