FREE Division 15 Webinar
“Educational Psychology and Politics: Civic Engagement and Education-Related Legislation”
Presented by Dr. Kevin Kumashiro and Dr. Christine Sleeter
Friday, January 26, 2024 | 12:00 – 1:00 pm Eastern Time
Event Description
Event Co-Chairs: Dr. Carlton J. Fong and Kanvarbir S. Gill
Two years ago, we hosted a webinar about broader ideologies that either support or undermine the experiences and achievement of marginalized youth (especially with regards to controversies around critical race theory). Two years later, the cultural and identity wars we find ourselves in have only intensified, as we reel from the news about affirmative action, academic freedom, DEI, book bans, and the list goes on. This webinar features two experts to help us consider how educational psychologists can understand, reflect, respond, resist, and engage in these precarious times. The webinar will conclude with a question and answer session, and participants are invited to share thoughts about the current climate. This webinar will be hosted via the Zoom platform and incorporate interactive elements to engage participants in the conversation.
