Division 15 invites doctoral students who are Division 15 members to apply to the Claire Ellen Weinstein Annual Graduate Student Seminar, held in-person before the 2024 APA Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington.

What do seminar attendees do? How long is the seminar?

Students will hear from experts in educational psychology about developing a program of research, fostering productive working relationships, conducting translational research, and pursuing job opportunities in and beyond academia. Students will attend mentoring sessions with leading faculty to receive feedback on their dissertation proposals and research programs as well as on their professional identity. Finally, students will have opportunities to network with senior scholars and future colleagues.

Accepted students will receive a stipend of $750 intended to offset the costs of attending seminar events and conference registration. Participants are expected to attend all Graduate Seminar-related Division 15 events on August 6th and 7th, 2024. Convention dates are August 8 – 11, 2023.

Who is eligible to apply to the seminar?

Applicants must be full-time doctoral students who have passed their comprehensive exam (or their university’s equivalent). Students from institutions large and small and from all domains relevant to educational psychology are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be members or student affiliates of Division 15 at the time of the convention. For information about the Division and how to join, visit: http://www.apadiv15.org/. How do I apply to the seminar? When is the application deadline?

The application deadline is 11:59m EST on Friday, May 10, 2024. You will find out about your acceptance the following week. The application can be seen in the following link: https://forms.gle/tjDH6oPcZe5Bdr5dA

Letter of Recommendation

Please note, we are not requiring advisors/supervisors to write letters of recommendation. However, please ask your advisor/supervisor to email the conference organizers with only the following statement: “I support [Name’s] participation in the APA Division 15 Graduate Student Seminar and confirm that they have passed their comprehensive exam [or their university’s equivalent].,to certify their support for your participation. Please ask your advisor/supervisor to email Dr. Ben Torsney (email: [email protected]).

All application materials must be received no later than 11:59pm EST on Friday, May 10, 2024. Incomplete applications will not be considered. All submitted documents must reflect original work done by the applicant and should conform to ethical guidelines for research and reporting set forth by APA.

Evaluation Criteria

Selections will be based on the quality of the submitted work, demonstrated need for additional mentorship, readiness for the seminar, and fit with Division 15.
